Student’s Working Overseas Trust (SWOT) is a charitable society which was initially established in Ireland in the 1980's and run by 4th year medical and dental students. However it is now exclusively run by fourth year medical students at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). Each year we raise money that helps deliver much needed financial aid to impoverished hospitals in the third world, facilitating the acquisition of essential medical supplies and the promotion of health care education. 100% of the money we raise is brought directly to hospitals across the world by fourth year medical students taking part in their elective placement.
Each year we aim to raise money in a number of ways, including through blood pressure clinics, bag-packing and carol singing sessions for the community; and through numerous social events for all medical students and the wider student population. Our main event every year however is the SWOT fashion show, voted 'Event of the Year' for the past three years running by Queen's Students' Union. This event raises upwards of £30,000 each year, all of which is donated to resource-poor hospitals. However, this event is not possible without many kind donations from companies and small businesses. Financial sponsorship and/or non-monetary gifts, donated to SWOT, would be life changing and greatly appreciated. This year we have 2 aims:
1) To raise the profile of SWOT in QUB and the wider community
2) To raise a target of £50,000
